A treasure hunter who doesn’t talk much, he uses sword and shuriken as his weapon. He is the youngest hunter from his hunter family. His desire to prove himself comes from his father, as he never admit his son’s skill.

Shou

A villager who knows everything about the island and he will lead Shou to the mountain. Hudy will also provide the player hints to defeat each evils before he enters the fight area. Also, Hudy is the one who tells the legend of the box and the story of each hunter to the player. However, he hides the truth that those evil are actually once a human, because he is afraid of the hunters runing away after knowing the curse of opening the box. His real motive is to save his daughter Lamey, who was once a treasure hunter and get cured and turn into an evil by opening the box. He wants to meet his daughter by following other hunters to the top of the mountain. He has tried to kill Silence once but fail to do so, and hurt his hands in the process.

Hudy

An evil with female upper body and eight spider legs, who was once a treasure hunter. She is responsible for the first level fight, represent ‘look not to what is evil’. She attack by stomping the ground and player have to dodge her attack then use his sword to cut off her legs. Before she turns into an evil, she was a plump girl who believes only white and skinny women are beautiful. She look down on everyone who are below the level of her definition of beauty, despite being insecure about her own body shape.

Hoodwink

An evil with bat wings and man upper body, who was a treasure hunter. He is responsible for the second level fight, representing ‘listen not what is evil’. He attack by using his sound wave, player has to hide behind the stone to dodge the attack and hit his wings with the shuriken. His dream is to become a musician when he was a human. He was a talented child but his parent does not allow him to pursue his dream, because they think musician is a job with no future. His family forced him to give up his dream, at last he tried to become a ‘successful’ and rich person to fulfil their wish.

Deafen

An evil with lion head and male body, who was a treasure hunter. He is responsible for the third level fight, represent ‘speak not at what is evil’. Fire spawns around him and he would use fireball to attack the player. Player have to dodge his attack then use shuriken to hit the cross scar on his left chest, it is the location of his heart which is his weakness. When he was a human, he accept and follow his superiors’ orders even though he think they’re wrong. Which lead him becoming a liar because he have no confident and never speak bluntly.

Silence

An evil with woman upper body and a rock snake tail, who was a treasure hunter and Hudy's daughter. She is responsible for the last level fight, represent ‘make no movement which is evil’. She uses her poison needle to attack, the player have to dodge the attack and hit her head. When Lamey was a human, she was in love with a woman but her father opposed their relationship because he thinks it is unacceptable. Lamey’s lover want to elope but Lamey refuse to resist against her father.

Lamey

The main character design is inspired by Japanese ninja, representing the image of persistence and protection. In the story, Shou comes from a hunter family where his father always look down upon him. However, this does not turn him into a self-abased person, instead it has become his force to prove himself. Shou’s name in Chinese「守」which means protection and maintain, it reflects the significant idea of our game, protect your dream and faith. 

 

Hudy is the father of Lamey, one of the four evil. He represents ordinary parent. Hudy’s name in Chinese「護」means guard and care. He forces his daughter to become someone the society want her to be and decline her real wish. After Lamey get cursed and turned into an evil, Hudy regret what he has done to his daughter and hope Lamey can forgive him, because he still loves her. 

 

The character design of the four evil in our game revolve around the concept of a Chinese traditional concept:  "Look not at what is evil; listen not to what is evil; speak not what is evil; make no movement which is evil" (「非禮勿視,非禮勿聽,非禮勿言,非禮勿動。」) which comes from The Analects of Confucius ( 論語 ) .

This concept is talking about how to be pure and follow the sense of propriety. The evil of the game will reflect the wisdom of this Chinese traditional concept. We choose this concept as our main design inspiration because it represents the bound of society. Each of the evil have their own story and reason explaining why they are punished by the mystery box, however all of them are cursed because they evade the reality. They are trapped by the rules forever because they do not have strong determination and refuse to accept who they are, therefore they are cursed and become angry and depressed for the rest of their life.
